Still raining here in Paris and those bastard cobbles are slippery. I know that the SD is famous for its sensitive throttle, but is there anything that can be done to smooth it out? Riding along this morning and trying not to take off like a scalded cat when I hit bumps in the road that moved my throttle settings by a mm I resorted to the clutch - I am used to this on my Ducati, but with the Duc it's more the low down lumpiness that you disguise with the clutch. I have a 2008 SD with Slip on Akra's - (do I need a re-map for these?). I don't mind the nerves so much in the dry, but when it's cold and wet I am finding it challenging!!

If it's not re-mapped, then Yes, you ideally want this doing.

TBH, it's just something you get used to

Some report that the PCIII and a map smooths the low RPM fueling. I haven't tried that, but after a few thousand miles I got used to the fueling and can manage slow speeds without too much twitch (but still have to clutch it more than I would like).

thanks for the response - PC111 maybe the way forward. Can the existing map be re-mapped easily? is a PC111 easy to fit/spenny?- total ignoramus on these matters...

I think PCIII is easy enough to install, but to get a custom map you need dyno work. Sorry I can't say much more than that as I haven't used one. Tuneboy is another option but they seem not to provide much support to SD riders. I bet many others will speak up.

might help try ridding aka dirt biker style elbows up a bit more than you do on a bike with clip ons ,on dirt the rougher it gets the higher the elbows to helps smooth out throttle jjjittters and stabalize upper body .

you mean I actually have a justifiable reason to ride like that? excellent !!

Set your bike up to the comfort settings that will help ,

and iff you fit a 40'tooth rear sproket that smooths things rihgt out in the lower gears .

I'm not saying you shouldn't get a PCIII, but the G2 throttle cam (200) works wonders for that nasty snatch. KTM sells it as a powerpart for the SD/Adv/RFS bikes. $99 US list price.

Iff you soften your compeshon ,on your frunt forks like to the book KTM Comfort settings this will stop it bownceing up and down ,wich in tern stops you from twiching you throtel ,leav the rebownd were it is Standed so it will slow the forks down comeing back up when it bownces arownd makeing you twich your throtel ,but you can add the rebownd a cuppel of clicks at a time to improove it as well ,

Or as I have sed ,fit a 40'tooth rear sproket its amazing for arownd town rideing stick it in 2nd and just ride it on the throtle 20'mph at 2000'rpm , 30'mph at 3'500' rpm ,40'mph at 4'200'rpm , and with the 16'tooth frunt ,and 40'tooth rear ,you onley luos bettwean 8'and 10'MPH off your top speed , I can live with that ,I dont find the SD comfortubal to ride at over 135'mph eney way ,

try the 40'tooth for arownd town its one of the best cheapest Mods you can do and you aradikate the botom end low speed jarkynes .

You can also try a reverse quickthrottle - if you don't want to spend any $.

This will involve either filing the throttle grip smaller or adding a cable tie or two on the trottle body cam inside the airbox.

Regarding gearing... the bike becomes more twitchy if you fit a 16T (smaller) front, or 40T (larger) rear. So you will need taller gearing by fitting a 17T front and 38T rear.
You may need to take out a link from the chain... or extend your wheelbase by adjusting the rear wheel out.

Will, Before you jump into the PCIII, Check out the tune boy.

I have the PC III and wish I had a tune boy to adjust red-line and engine idle settings.

joe has a throttle cam, this helped with the round-the-world throttle, I would like to get an even quicker one for track days.
