Unrideable- fuel issues

I changed the filters in the fuel pump and put in new spark plugs and the bike ran perfectly...for a couple of weeks...then today, I start it up and its suddenly all over the place, totally unrideable, surging, popping and banging, cutting out every few seconds. Its like the gas is cutting out and then its on and then its not....It will idle for a few seconds, then just stop...It can't be ridden at all. Any ideas?

I took out the fuel pump again and it looks fine...I went over every electrical connection I could find, incl. the battery...but I see nothing wrong.

Thanks, I've been reading up on it and will give it a go.

Its been wet lately...maybe some water got in there...

Either that or push the coil pack (spark plug connector) all the way in.
They need some effort sometimes.

I'm working on it....

...last two days have been beautiful for riding, sunny and warm, (it was supposed to be cold and rainy, but its not)...and I'm not (riding)

Well, the Big Grey Connector wasn't it...(actually two BGCs ...because of the PCIII) all the WD-40, the two days hosing it in and draining it out, the electric grease,...made no difference...
so...I took everything apart on top of the motor again...the complete airbox, fuel injectors, all those electric connections around them, etc...got down to the plugs, made sure everything was secure and all connectors were correctly plugged in...put it all back together...still made no difference...
so...took out the fuel pump again...noticed the top cap (that goes over the round filter) was slightly "off", not correctly clipped down...re-fastened that..put it all back togethr...put in fresh gas...charged the battery...
..fired it up...everything seems fine...I haven't taken it for a ride yet (it's pouring rain) but it idles and revs up smoothly....
so...what was it?...my guess is the fuel pump being not correctly assembled (by me)...probably looked okay when I put it in but the metal side cl;ips were not fully engaged on one side...ran fine for awhile and then the plastic bit slipped past the metal clip and ....that caused intermittent fuel pumping...or some possible combination of all the above....
