I run the Shell Rotella synthetic in all my bikes. Never a problem. That used to be what KTM called for. It's a matter of business who they recommend, not necessarily a better oil. The Shell is cheap and works great. Very heavy duty. About $17/gallon at Wal-Mart for full synthetic. It's not that important, I think. Nor is the frequency of the oil change. These things aren't that fragile. It's marketing. Take care of it, but no need to be paranoid.

My take after years and years, and miles and miles.

I finally found some official Motorex oil for the SD from a KTM dealer...its marked 0-50...is made in Switzerland (I didn't realise they had "oil") and costs about $26. per litre!!!!!!! Can anyone enlighten me?? Will the Amsoil 10-40 be good enough???

I think it is ridiculous.... that the KTM shop that is 2 miles from me sells this exact same product, motorex 10-40, 10-50 for $72.00 for the same product I bought for

$28.00, this makes me wonder just how far I can trust someone that charges me that much more for something....... anything as far as that goes, even a KTM.

I hope so, it is all she has had in her for the last 5000 miles.

joe was in cycle gear a couple of months ago, I was lucky enough to stumble onto a 4 Lt'r container of motor-X synthetic 10-w40 for $28.00.

i know what you mean... and how the f u c k do you get only 50 bhp from 1400cc motor???
i rented a Hardly (think it was fatboy?) as our ride for the wedding - figured its better than CBR... what a dissapointment. crap in every possible way, i'd rather put a chainsaw motor on a bicycle and ride that.
but then again, i borrowed Honda VTX1300 from my friendly dealer for few days after my blade was stolen, just to have something to ride, brand new 07, 400 km. i raced it against my wifes first bike that still stood in my garage - 87 Honda CBX 250. guess what - i lost! and by a lot too. only after 250 topped out (~130km/h) vtx cought up a bit, but not much - topped out ~140. i do have ~70lb disadvantage over my wife, but i doubt it makes much difference on 700lb bike.

ahhh...nothing like a little hog-bashing for relaxation...

I too am always shocked when I read horsepower statistics for a hog...how can they possibly put out such low horsepower???..and with such a racket!!!

But that suspension!!!

I once thought I might like a sportster..I took a friend's for a ride and after riding that pogo stick bouncing "suspension" around the block, I was cured.

Actually, I'm not really a fan of any of the cop bikes (aka "cruisers") hog or "metric"...I think most of the people who own them are either new to bikes and have made a first mistake and/or would really be better off driving a convertible.

It gets worse...I went to a bike show a few weeks ago and sat on that new Victory touring bike...its not like "half-a-car"...more like half a bus....

Harley Davidson, great noise without the harmful effects of horsepower.
