Won't Start

I'm f**king pissed off I stuck a new battery on the bike over winter because the old one wouldn't take a charge any more and the Optimate wanted to desulphate it all the time Anyway, despite the new battery being fully charged (according to the optimate) it wouldn't start the bike yesterday. A quick jump start from a spare battery got it running, I then did a 80 mile trip, parked up, and 3 hours later it wouldn't start again

This morning I've checked the voltage and it's showing as 12.8v, but it just won't start the bike. Once I've jump started it to get it running, the voltage across the terminals is 14.1v DC, which shows that the reg/rec and alternator are working (although the voltage doesn't increase with the revs) but I just don't get why it won't start with a charged battery.

I'm at the point where I just want to sell the thing

Sometimes you can just get a dud battery - just cos it's new doesn't mean it's any good. (this has happened to me)
Feel your frustration though, there is NOTHING worse than some bloody doodad that doesn't perform as required

chris, if you can start from another battery, i would agree with lobster that your (new) battery is probably shit.
when you boost it, do you put the power to the batery terminals, or do you put ground on the frame/bolt etc?
maybe your battery ground is off/corroded? do you get any power with the new battery?(lights etc?)

I just put in the battery after sitting all winter and my 08 Superduke won't start.
The lights all flash when I turn thr key but only the low oil pressure light stays on.
Neutral light will not come on and even if I pull in the clutch and hit the starter, nothing.
I checked my connections and everything looks good and I have plenty of juice.
Any ideas?

Thanks,

Ron

The bike is not turning over. I think it is electrical of some sort.
I can not find my manual to see if there is something I need to do when re-installing the battery.

No, it's not the kill switch. The neutral light is not coming on and it is in neutral.
I must have a bad connection someplace from removing the battery.
